This is my first official Mother’s Day as a mom so naturally I am thinking of my mother on this day. A good friend of mine said we most often think about the type of parents we don’t want to be rather than the ones we want to. Luckily for me, I had a wonderful mother to emulate (and yes there are some ways we are very different) and today I want to focus on the many wonderful things I remember about my mother growing up.

My mom is:

1. Always thinking of me and my sister, whether a phone call just to hear our voice, out shopping to purchase something we told her we needed months ago to a phone call to share a moment of good times with us. We are always on her mind and that is such a completely wonderful feeling that is often overlooked.

2. One of the most loving people I know. When we were growing up any time we wanted a friend to come to dinner they were always welcome in our home. My mom never said no even when we were going through tough financial times (which as children we had no idea was even happening), she always said we had enough for another – this still continues to this day.

3. Always up for a good time. She’ll be the first to get out on the dance floor or start the cocktails.

4. One of, if not the most, loving person I know. She is always telling me how much she loves me and always trying to squeeze in a hug every chance she gets when I see her. She does his with everyone it is an amazing feeling.

5. A wonderful YiaYia. I didn’t know that she had anymore love in her until I became mother. She loves and hugs and kisses Lil B all the time. She sings to him and talks with him. He smiles at her face and gets excited when we show her picture to him. She took care of me after I delivered and tells me all the time how I am a wonderful mother.

6. Proud of me and never misses a chance to tell me.

Mom I love you so much and I could not ask for a better mother. I am so fortunate to call you my own and look forward to having you share all the wonderful qualities you posses with my son. I could only hope to be as loving, thoughtful and patient as you have been to me.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom, I love you.
